Guidelines

*** All submissions received after May 1, 2018, will be considered for publication on our site for Fall 2018.

We accept submissions for our online post on a rolling basis. Please read all guidelines before submitting.

We are looking for previously unpublished work by women writers and artists.  We want poetry and flash fiction that is brief and powerful.  We want art and photography that make us feel something profound.  The best way to get a sense of what we want is to check out the archive.  It’s free so no excuses.  We look forward to reading your work!

Poetry
Send up to 5 poems in the body of an email.  Each poem should be no longer than a page.

Flash Fiction
Send up to 3 stories in the body of an email.  Keep each story under 1000 words.

Art
Send up to 3 images (art or photography) as attachments, all jpeg format (no bigger than 5 MB – if we need something larger, we’ll ask.)

Send Submissions to:
DyingDahliaReview@gmail.com

Other Important Things:

Work must be submitted in the body of the email.  Attachments will not be opened with the exception of artwork from artists.

We do accept simultaneous submissions, but please inform us if it is accepted elsewhere.

We don’t do mail submissions.  Stop killing those trees.

We are not paid so we cannot pay you. However, you will have our undying love and perhaps if we ever meet, a cup of coffee (or tea). And perhaps a cookie.  We like cookies.

If your work is rejected, don’t take it personally.   It simply means that it just wasn’t right for us.  Keep submitting and your work will find a good home.

We do not want anything racist, homophobic, pornographic or violent.

A cover letter is nice, but keep it short.

Please include a brief bio (under 50 words, written in third person) with your submission. Never been published? No worries. We welcome both unpublished and published writers.

We know waiting is hard.  We are writers too, so we get it. Currently, our response time is about a month.  But things do happen, so if you don’t hear back from us after two months, feel free to shoot us an email.

Dying Dahlia Review asks for first rights to any piece the editor selects.  Once published, all rights revert back to the writer/artist.  We ask that if you decide to republish the piece elsewhere that you cite Dying Dahlia Review as a place of previous publication.
